Directors
Chris Russell, Chairman

Chris was appointed to the board as a Non-Executive Director on 1 December 2016 and took over as Chairman in December 2020.

He is a Non-Executive Director of investment and financial companies. These include Hanseatic Asset Management Ltd, a family office in Guernsey, and JP Morgan Global Core Real Estate Assets Ltd, a vehicle which invests in unlisted global JP Morgan real estate and infrastructure funds. Prior to a non-executive career, he was a director of Gartmore Investment Management plc, where he was Head of Gartmore’s businesses in the US and Japan. Before that he was a holding board director of the Jardine Fleming Group in Asia, resident in Japan, then Haong Kong. Prior to joining Flemings in London, he was with Phillips & Drew Asset Management. He is a Fellow of the UK Society of Investment Professionals and Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.

In 2006, Chris was commissioned by John Wiley to publish ‘Trustee Investment Strategy for Endowments and Foundations’.

David Staples

David was appointed to the board as a Non-Executive Director and Chairman of the Audit Committee on 29 May 2019.

He is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and an associate of the Chartered Institute of Taxation. He also holds the Institute of Directors Diploma in Company Direction and has been granted a personal fiduciary license by the Guernsey Financial Services Commission. For 13 years until 2003, Mr Staples was a partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and led the tax practice in the South East of England advising several large family and owner-managed businesses. He was also a member of the management board of the firm’s London and South East Middle Markets Tax Practice. Since leaving PwC, David has joined the boards of several listed companies as a non-executive director. He was, until recently, chairman of MedicX Fund Limited and chairman of the audit committee of Henderson Far East Income Limited. He is currently a director of NB Global Floating Rate Income Fund Limited and Baker Steel Resources Trust Limited, both of which are listed on the London Stock Exchange. His other appointments include directorships of the general partners of six private equity funds advised by Apax Partners.

Nick Pink

Nick was appointed to the board as a Non-Executive Director on 1 September 2020.

He had a senior management career at UBS Investment Bank, ultimately as Global Head of Research and previously as Head of European Equities, Head of European Equity Research and Head of Asia Equities Research. He has deep experience across global equities at board, committee, management and operational level within investment, corporate finance, strategy and risk.

Nick has chaired numerous UBS committees including the Global Research board, Global Research Investment Committee, European Equities SIF Committee and European Equities Management Committee and sat on the boards of UBS Ltd (£1.7bn revenues) and the Global Equities board (£3bn revenues).

He has experience in ESG investment on sell and buy side. He managed UBS Global ESG research, consulted on investment best practice in an equity ESG asset manager and was responsible for implementation of ESG principles at a charity endowment. He has a decade of experience of utilities as a top rated utility analyst. As Head of European Utilities Research he undertook extensive corporate finance and analysis in the sector. He has recently been appointed an NED at JPMorgan Russian Securities plc to add to existing board roles in education with a finance and investment focus. Nick holds a MA in History from Cambridge University, where he was President of the Union.

Jill May

Jill was appointed to the board as a Non-Executive Director and Chair of the MEC on 17 March 2017.

She also works with JPMorgan Claverhouse Investment Trust plc since 1 February 2017. She has broad knowledge of investment banking, asset management and private banking in the UK and EMEA. She is an External Member of the Prudential Regulation Committee of the Bank of England and was a non-executive director of the CMA from its inception in 2013 until October 2016, and a Panel Member of the CMA until 2018. She is a non-executive director of JPMorgan Claverhouse, a UK listed investment trust, Standard Life Investments Property Income Trust, a UK-listed REIT, and of Sirius Real Estate, a UK-listed property company.

Shelagh Mason

Shelagh was appointed to the board as a Non-Executive Director on 1 June 2020.

She is a solicitor specialising in English commercial property as a consultant with Collas Crill LLP. She is a past Chairman of the Guernsey Branch of the Institute of Directors and a member of the Cham-ber of Commerce, the Guernsey International Legal Association. Shelagh also holds the IOD Company Direction Certificate and Diploma with distinction.
