Responsible Investment Report
In this quarter’s report, we delve into our engagement with one of the leading European airlines to gain a fuller understanding of its efforts to reduce carbon emissions. We also engaged with a Japanese precision machinery company on recruitment of women to senior roles, and with a multinational beauty business on a range of issues from independent directors to raw materials sourcing.
Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures 2022
Our second annual TCFD Report gives an update on how Ruffer considers climate change risks (both physical and transition) and opportunities in our clients’ portfolios. It also discusses some of our recent engagements with companies to help deliver better climate outcomes and with data providers to generate more useful metrics.
Responsible Investment Report
In this quarter's Responsible Investment report, we reflect on Ruffer's engagement with CDP's initiative to improve companies' collection and disclosure of carbon related data. We also provide an update on our latest stewardship activities.
A grand plan for the land
After almost four decades working in financial markets, Harry Buscall retired from Ruffer in 2020 to embark on a new adventure with his son Dominic at his family farm, Ken Hill in Norfolk. Using a combination of rewilding, regenerative farming and traditional conservation practices, the team at Ken Hill have devised an innovative approach to sustainable land management. Rory McIvor caught up with Harry, to find out more about his approach to the UK’s land use conundrum.
Mission possible
The extraordinary population growth over the past century has relied upon, and been enabled by, the birth of vast industrial farming systems. Food, on aggregate, is plentiful. Yet today, the dual issues of food security and sustainability loom as large as they have done in the post-industrial era. These megatrends present sources of both investment risk and opportunity.
Responsible Investment Report
In this quarter’s thought piece, Responsible Investment Manager Peter Lunt and Investment Director Harry Sevier explore the challenges involved with feeding a growing global population. They look at the risks and opportunities in the future of food security, and how these are reflected in Ruffer portfolios. We also include the usual update on our stewardship activities throughout the quarter.
Annual Stewardship Report
Our 2021 report highlights the depth and breadth of our stewardship activities. Our focus on engaging directly with company management has afforded us a deeper understanding of the companies in which our clients are invested.
Villains to heroes
Banks are rarely the first port of call in a responsible investor’s portfolio. The preference has been to allocate capital to companies directly involved in climate risk mitigation – electric vehicle manufacturers or renewable technology businesses. But financial services have a pivotal part to play in the transition to Net Zero and investor engagement is critical in determining how banks stand up to the climate challenge.
Responsible Investment Report
In our latest quarterly report, Investment Director Harry Sevier looks at the crucial role banks can play in facilitating the transition to Net Zero. We also include the usual update on our stewardship activities throughout the quarter.
From reduction to removal
